Fwd: FRINGEMK Painting Prize

Great news, as my painting has been selected for the catalogue for the FringeMK Painting Prize!

Dear Entrant,

The panel has made its selection of works for the FRINGEMK 2010 catalogue from the tremendous amount of entries received. The quality of painting submitted was way beyond expectation and it has been a very difficult selection.

We are delighted to tell you that your piece has been selected for inclusion in this year’s catalogue.

From this selection, works will be chosen for our final exhibition and this announcement will be made on 1 June. The four prize winners will then be announced at the awards evening being held on 15 July in Central Milton Keynes.

Images of the works selected for the catalogue will be placed on our facebook page shortly.

Keeping you informed about Park 10

My current practice concentrates on the juxtaposition of materials both through painting and installations. My piece for Park 10 considers the use of plants and plastics and how planting has become dependent on plastic.I intend to create an intervention in the park which references the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and which will evolve during the course of the exhibition.I shall be posting photos of the site over the coming week and will be filming the event over the three days at Cannizaro which will then be uploaded onto my blog. Keep checking this site for images.

These paintings continue with abstracting images from photographs, but the shapes have become less important as I consider the compositional relationship between the materials I am using.

The Collage images include the original photographs of the objects and images from magazines and printed material from books which have been chosen because of subject matter which refers to the original structure, a colour reference or line or the quality of paper which become integrated within the painting.

These are some of the paintings I have been working on since November. The images are from photographs I have taken in Whitstable and Seasalter of barriers or structures which have decayed and become a part of the space which they were originally imposed on. My drawings abstract the phtographed images to geometric objects which then become the compositional elements for my painting. These paintings are made from collage and oil paint on stertched canvas (71 cms x 61 cms)

Park 10 Friday May 7th to Monday May 10, Launch and Private view Friday May 7

I am happy to say that my proposal for Park 10 has been accepted. I am currently working towards the development and realisation of my piece. The piece I am proposing is an intervention/installation within the grounds of Cannizaro Park which has been informed by The Great Pacific Garbage Patch in the Pacific Ocean. I am looking at artists like Fabian Marcaccio, Phyllida Barlow and Isa Genzken to inform my work. I will be posting images on this site as the work progresses.
